Implementation
Current situation
Fresh vegetables represent a form of commodity in domestic and international markets that is constantly negotiated between a producer-seller and a wholesale buyer in order to be efficiently distributed to the final consumer.
The procedures for buying and selling fresh vegetables to date in Greece are based almost exclusively on “face-to-face” communication or even the use of telephone and email in order to convey information about availability, quality, price and other relevant information. Current practices result in a highly fragmented market that leads to wasted unproductive time in the negotiation and ordering process and to procurement that does not optimize the price/quality ratio.
Addressing the problem
The aim of the present project is to develop an integrated traceability process and to adapt the relevant digital tools with a focus on meeting the requirements of quality fresh vegetable markets worldwide which have common reference points which are summarized in the following:
- Significant quantities of quality products
- Quality certificates (GLOBALG.A.P., IFS, BRC)
- Food Safety – Traceability (compliance with European legislation and consumer requirements)
- Standardization (sizes, packaging, labels)
- Compliance with standards (UNECE, GS1, PLUs)
- Correct implementation of logistics (times, transport conditions, constant updating)
